I’ve been reflecting on the importance of adapting in all facets of life.
‘Adapting’ or ‘adaptation’ are words we first learned in school related to the phenomenon of evolving wildlife on the Galapagos Islands. And yet, we as people must also adapt in small and big ways throughout our lives. Oftentimes our stagnancy in achieving personal and professional goals can be traced back to a failure to adapt.
I looked up the actual definition for fun in the Cambridge Dictionary:
Adapting: to change your ideas or behaviour to make them suitable for a new situation
This feels pertinent in the face of many things this year, with just one example being my recent feelings toward Twitter—a platform I joined in 2009. As all great social media stories begin, I joined because of a boy I liked, who would later turn out to become my husband. I knew of Twitter, though hadn’t taken the plunge to start posting until I found out he was there. Needless to say, this worked out well in the end, and over the years I’ve made countless friends on Twitter. It’s been a great run.
After a weekend of mourning the loss of the Twitter I once loved, with countless goodbyes rolling in across LinkedIn from long-time Twitter talent, I made the decision it was time to move on.
This marks the first Substack post since I unceremoniously announced people could keep up with me here:
Starting anew
I quickly realized I was faced with an opportunity to rethink my online presence and pick up writing again—an activity I enjoy and yet rarely prioritize. As such, I will be experimenting via Mood Board by creating new frameworks for my posts. Some may take the form of a 1-2 sentence thought; others may be a series of thoughts or a longer blog post.
Whichever form this takes, I’m excited to try something new. In short, I’m adapting.
On another note, I hope you all have a good Thanksgiving weekend. I realize this is a tough time for many, especially startup founders and CEOs in this economic environment.
Wishing you and your loved ones good health and moments of rest. Until next time.
